I was taught never to discuss the following subjects in public: money, religion, sex and politics. And so I (mostly) have not. At the risk of offending my respected elders, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the upcoming and very important election for local government: Tuesday, November 5th. Local government is what effects our day to day living. Often our elected officials are people we know and live in our community. I urge you to please do your homework by getting to know your local candidates and make sure you take the time to vote Tuesday, November 5th.

You did not ask, but below are the names of the municipal and political figures who have graciously given of their time, over the last three years, to personally help guide me through my path with Crebilly Farm, open space in Chester County and ultimately you the public. I have had the pleasure of spending time with each one, face to face on more than one occasion, over discussions not just with Crebilly Farm, but our beloved Chester County and the uniqueness that draws us all here. Each person listed below has my deep appreciation, gratitude and respect:

Chairman, Westtown Township Planning Commission: Richard Pomerantz
Solicitor, Westtown Township BOS: Patrick McKenna
Chester County Commissioner: Michele Kichline
Chester County Commissioner: Terrance Farrell
Chester County Planning Commissioner: Brian O’Leary
Chester County Open Space: Bill Gladden (After 30 years, Bill has chosen to move on to a new endeavor; we still speak by phone when I have questions…)
Pennsylvania State Representative: Carolyn Committa
Pennsylvania State Sentator: Tom Killion
And diligent reporters:
Kathleen Brady Shea, Chadds Ford Live
Bill Rettew, Daily Local News

I love our country; I love our county and in spite of their many imperfections, there is no place I would rather live. In recent years, I have come to believe our society is rather ridiculous in many ways. It makes me try all the harder to blaze my own trail, be my own best friend and not get caught up in the hostility of social drama and a runaway freight train I have no control over. How we got to a place where there seems to be no room for mistakes or imperfection as human beings, is a real mystery to me. I do not believe in perfection. No one has it all. I remind myself that life is not according to my own agenda. And I try not to get caught up in the BS, on the way to the bigger picture. There is always a bigger picture.

If any one of the above names appeared on a ballot of mine, they would have my vote. But don’t take my word for it. Please take the next few weeks to do your own research before you vote Tuesday, November 5th. Just because this is what I think does not mean I am right. Do not ever let anyone else make up your own mind.

If not you, then who?

Sincerely,
Mindy Rhodes

  1. Well stated and thank you for the insight regarding local politicians. Hard to know where and what they stand for and this is helpful.

  2. Very sorry to see you endorsing the incumbent county commissioners, Mindy. They approved the pipeline which is such a disaster in Chester County. I am backing Josh Maxwell who is a committed environmentalist who has worked with us on green issues through the Chester County Environmental Alliance. Time to give Democrats a chance at leading.

    1. Dear Mrs. Hudgings,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I figured this email could get me in some hot water.
Rest assured, I seem to alienate both Democrats and Republicans pretty equally.
Such is the life of an Independent.

I hope you and Mr. Hudgings are well.
      Take care,
      Mindy
